Just tried Glide OS 4.0, a cloud-based Desktop replacement. On the plus side, the service gives you 30Gb of free online storage. When I created an account and logged in to my Glide Desktop for the first time, I clicked on Videos and browsed the folder contents. There were three bootlegged episodes of The Simpsons, an episode of Caprica, and home movies of a preschool child at a school play. Pretty typical personal data, right? Only one problem:
None of it was mine.
Shocked, I clicked out of the Videos folder. When I clicked back into it, the not-my-data was no longer there. But the damage was done. The service guarantees privacy of your personal data, but after this anomaly, there’s no way that I’m storing my personal data in Glide.
